Owing to its small size and intense flavor, the Cox Orange Pippin Apple was elected the best 19th century dessert apple. It is aromatic, even perfumed, with an intense flavor range: spicy, rich, honeyed, with a hint of nuttiness. Given their unique flavor, these apples are best suited to fresh eating out of hand, but you could also make a tart or pair with goat cheese on toast or in a salad.
