Teagan is a striking semi-heading lettuce developed by breeder Rick Machado and brought to market by Row 7 Seed Company. With large, tender leaves shaded in deep maroon and bronze, Teagan was bred by crossing the Italian heirloom Regina dei Ghiacci (“Ice Queen”) with a red-leaf lettuce, making for a lettuce with the crisp texture and structure of an iceberg-type variety, but with considerably more flavor and color.
Teagan has a succulent crunch and a full, savory lettuce flavor that makes it stand out in salads and sandwiches. The mature heads are large and mostly bronze-leafed, while smaller heads can be harvested as leaf lettuce. Its sturdy leaves also hold up well to grilling and roasting, and the outer leaves can be braised or added to soups and stews.
