Rudi's BakeryRudi's Bakery

Boulder, CO

Rudi's has been baking bread in Boulder, Colorado since 1976, long before "organic" appeared on grocery labels. The bakery began as a small natural foods operation turning out honest, wholesome loaves for Boulder's health food stores, and it became one of the earliest champions of organic baking in the country, working with clean, simple ingredients decades before USDA organic standards even existed. When those standards finally arrived, Rudi's was already living by them.

Nearly fifty years later, the bakery still obsesses over its ingredient lists. Rudi's bakes certified organic sandwich breads, buns, English muffins, and wraps with short, recognizable ingredient decks and no artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors. In the 2000s, the bakery brought that same standard to a dedicated gluten-free line, giving people avoiding wheat a sandwich bread that actually tastes and toasts like the real thing. Certified organic and certified gluten-free lines now sit side by side, built on the same founding belief that great taste and real ingredients belong together.

Through all its growth, Rudi's has stayed rooted in Boulder and in the Rocky Mountain natural foods tradition that shaped it. It remains what it has been since 1976: a pioneer of the American organic baking movement that never stopped acting like a hometown bakery.
