Daphnis & Chloe
Athens, Greece
Named after a second-century Greek pastoral novel — a story of two shepherds navigating love and adventure in the countryside — Daphnis & Chloe was founded in 2013 in a small workshop beneath the Acropolis Hill in Athens. Their dream was to see the limited-batch terroir herbs of Greece find their way into home kitchens worldwide, and to shine a light on the small farmers who grow them.
Greece's peculiar geography and variable microclimates have shaped some of the most flavorful and aromatic herbs anywhere. Studied by scientists and traded by farmers since antiquity, these ingredients have enormous culinary value, yet rarely travel beyond the regions where they grow. Daphnis & Chloe set out to change that, traveling the country in search of superior specimens, sourcing in small batches from organic farms, and working closely with growers they know by first name, many of them reviving forgotten heirloom varieties.
Every step of the journey from harvest to shipping is carefully tended to preserve the essential oils and character that make these plants exceptional. The herbs, teas, and spices they produce are richer in flavor and aroma than anything typically found on a supermarket shelf, and trusted by professional chefs and home cooks alike. From wild thyme flowers and Aegean oregano to whole-leaf lemon verbena and Greek mountain tea, each one is a concentrated expression of the Greek landscape.
