Seckels (pronounced SEK-el) are tiny pears, with a chubby, round body, small neck, and short stem. Their skin is usually olive green, but frequently exhibits a dark maroon blush that sometimes covers the entire surface of the pear. Slice and add to a salad with dried cranberries and arugula; cube and cook into a blue cheese and walnut sauce; bake a delicious tart. Store on the counter until desired ripeness, then place in fridge crisper drawer to extend life.
