Sometimes called a Valentine Pomelo because of its red color, this grapefruit-sized citrus is a cross between a Siamese Sweet Pomelo and a blood orange/mandarin hybrid. As a result, they are easy to peel, with a much thinner rind than the usual variety. Native to southeast Asia and a staple fruit in Vietnam, try using sections of this red globe pomelo as a beautiful way to spruce up a Vietnamese or Thai salad with cabbage, papaya, chili, peanuts and garlic. Use the juice for a cocktail or sorbet; or add the flesh to muffins, quickbreads or cakes. These pomelos also pair well with fish or other seafood.
