Lemon balm, as the name suggests, is a lemony scented herb in the mint family. Also as the name suggests, it has many restorative and healing properties, having been established as a treatment improve cognitive function and mood (i.e. reduce stress and anxiety and help with sleep). However, many believe lemon balm to have pain relieving properties as well, like for headaches, cold sores, and even menstrual cramps. But really, we like it because it's so delicious. Brew a delicious lemon balm tea with ginger for an upset tummy, or valerian root to aid sleep. Chop and toss into salads or infuse into vinegar to take advantage of it's savory side. Or add to baked goods or honey butter to add a pop of herbal lemoniess to your treats.
