Fresh organic Romano beans are a flat, wide variety of snap bean known for their meaty texture and mild, grassy flavor. Also referred to as Italian flat beans, this fresh produce item features a broad, edible pod that lacks the tough fibrous strings found in older heirloom bean varieties. Because of their robust structure, whole Romano beans hold their shape and remain tender even when subjected to long, slow cooking methods. They are traditionally braised with tomatoes and garlic in Mediterranean dishes, but they can also be quickly blanched for salads, blistered in a hot skillet, or tossed directly onto a grill. Before cooking, the stem ends should be trimmed. These organic beans are harvested fresh and are ready to be incorporated into a variety of hot or cold culinary applications.
