Zucchini means "little squash" in Italian. In fact, these are small summer squashes. If left to mature on the vine, they can grow to very large, pumpkin-like sizes. At that point, they’re no longer referred to as zucchini, but marrows. Being small and sweet, zucchini pair well with tomatoes, so try a sauce or side dish of sautéed zucchini and tomatoes for a very summery dish--extra good if served with a bit of fresh mozzarella.
