Fresh Turmeric

4 oz

It is that well anticipated time of the year--fresh turmeric harvest! The growers at Old Friends Farm pioneered cultivating fresh turmeric in northern climates and have perfected their system over the year. This young turmeric root is very tender, with no tough skin and less inner fibers than the stuff you typically find in the grocery stores. This also means it is more perishable than your typical fresh turmeric. FEAR NOT! If you can't use it quickly, turmeric root freezes exceptionally well, and you can easily grate the root from frozen into whatever you can dream up: salad dressings, curries, soups, stews, teas, pickles, stir fries, or the freshest golden milk you've ever had!

Store in a paper bag or wrapped in a paper towel in a well sealed plastic bag in the fridge for up to a week. To freeze: break into smaller pieces and freeze root whole. Grate or shave with knife while root is frozen. Do not allow it to thaw, as it will turn to mush and will be difficult to work. Put unused portion back into freezer.
