At Farm to People, we source most of our products locally. Supporting local and regional farmers is our priority, but some items don't grow well in the Northeast or are out of season here. For those, we look farther afield so you can still find your everyday staples with us.

Blueberries are a good example of why. The Northeast's blueberry season runs roughly June through August, but blueberries grow somewhere in the world nearly all year. When our season ends, growers in the Southern Hemisphere, including Peru, are just getting started, since their seasons run opposite ours. That's why you'll still find organic blueberries on our site outside our local season.

For a lot of imported fruit, a few large companies own many of the popular varieties and control much of the market. When we source from farther away, we choose to work outside that model where we can. We work with trusted distributors and brokers who source from several growers rather than one dominant supplier, so your blueberries may arrive under a national brand's packaging, such as Naturipe, Ocean Spray, Homegrown Organic Farms, or Awe Sum Organics and the label can change from week to week. We'd rather tell you the country of origin up front than name a farm we can't guarantee.

Whether it's grown locally or from farther away, every item we sell, blueberries included, has to meet the same quality standards.
