Red Hook, NY

Battenfeld Anemone Farm has been part of the Red Hook, New York landscape since the late 1800s, when Conrad and Elizabeth Battenfeld founded the operation as a fruit and dairy farm specializing in apples. In the early 1900s, the family shifted its focus to growing violets, a thriving Hudson Valley industry at the time that earned nearby Rhinebeck the nickname “Violet Capital of the Country.” The flowers were shipped nationwide by rail, and the Battenfeld name became synonymous with exceptional quality and care.

After the violet market declined following World War II, the Battenfeld family transitioned to growing anemones. Over the decades, the farm expanded its greenhouse operations and refined its growing techniques, blending innovation with generations of horticultural knowledge. Today, Battenfeld Farm represents five generations of growers who have turned a deep love of the land into a year-round family business.

The farm specializes in fresh cut flowers for wholesale and local buyers, with the Hudson Valley’s climate proving ideal for their signature anemones. In addition to anemones, Battenfeld grows butterfly ranunculus, lilies, alstroemeria, dahlias, peonies, and violets. Known for their luminous petals and striking centers, Battenfeld anemones have been a farm favorite for generations. The region’s climate allows for vivid blooms from late September through Mother’s Day, with a wide range of single-color and multi-colored varieties.

Each flower reflects years of refinement, hand pollination, and a family-wide commitment to quality. By continuing to develop new colors and collaborate with early producers to extend the growing season, Battenfeld Anemone Farm honors its long tradition while embracing innovation that allows these distinctive blooms to be shared for much of the year.
