Big Picture Farm
Townshend, VT
Big Picture Farm sits on a hillside in Townshend, Vermont, where Louisa Conrad and Lucas Farrell have been raising dairy goats and making farmstead confections since 2010. What started as a small goat dairy has grown into an Animal Welfare Approved farm of about 40 free-ranging does, whose fresh, raw milk is the foundation of everything made here.
Big Picture Farm's caramels have earned more than a dozen national awards, including four Best Confection honors at the Fancy Food Show and multiple Good Food Awards. They use fresh, raw milk from goats that browse freely on Vermont pasture in summer and eat organic hay in winter — good milk from well-cared-for animals, and it shows in the finished caramel.
Big Picture Farm's name reflects something of its philosophy. Conrad and Farrell see the farm's story, its animals, its seasons, and its people as inseparable from what ends up in the box. Their product line spans classic farmstead caramels in a rotating range of flavors, seasonal gift boxes, and chocolate-dipped varieties made with organic, fair-trade dark chocolate.
