Watsonia Farms
Monetta, SC
Watsonia Farms represents over a century of agricultural excellence, rooted in the Watson family's unwavering passion for farming that began more than 100 years ago. Today, the third and fourth generations of Watsons continue this legacy as thoughtful stewards of the land, owning and operating their specialized organic produce operation in South Carolina's Ridge area.
The farm's rich history traces back to founder Joseph H. Watson Sr., a visionary pioneer who organized fellow farmers in the early 1920s. His leadership and enthusiasm led to the introduction of asparagus and later peaches to the region, fundamentally transforming local agriculture. Working alongside his wife Mary and son Jerrold, the Watson family played an instrumental role in establishing the Monetta Asparagus Association.
Watsonia Organics maintains a strong collaborative relationship with horticulturalists at Clemson University, serving as a living laboratory for innovative agricultural research and varietal test blocks. As industry forerunners, the farm integrates cutting-edge practices and technologies throughout their operations, ensuring they remain at the forefront of sustainable farming methods.
The farm's commitment to responsible agriculture extends through comprehensive Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols and rigorous customer product safety programs, which form integral components of their daily operations. This dedication to both innovation and safety reflects the Watson family's enduring commitment to producing exceptional organic produce while maintaining the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
