Eastern Fresh Growers grows and packs vegetables in Cedarville, New Jersey, on land the Sheppard family has farmed since 1888, when Timothy Sheppard bought a 108-acre farm on Sayres Neck Road. The Sheppards trace their farming roots in South Jersey back to 1683. Today brothers Erwin and Tom Sheppard run the operation, now 1,500 acres, with the next generation already working alongside them. Eastern Fresh Growers, incorporated in 1984, handles packing and shipping from a facility with temperature-controlled packing areas and dedicated asparagus lines, a crop the farm is especially known for.
