Country Hill Produce

This two acre veggie farm in Kinzers, PA capitalizes on the nutrient-rich, fertile soil of Lancaster County by using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to control any possible food invaders. IPM is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention of pests or their damage through a combination of techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, modification of cultural practices, and use of resistant varieties--all of which seek to make the farmland more rich while making it less welcoming or habitable to pests who would see that ruined. Pesticides are rarely if ever used, and only employed after monitoring indicates they are needed due to an overwhelming, temporary outbreak. Treatments are made with the goal of removing only the target organism, and the type of pest control materials are selected and applied in a manner that minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and non-target organisms, and the environment.
