Gai Lan, also known as Chinese Broccoli, is a member of the brassica family -- the same team that brought you hits such as cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kale, and of course, broccoli! Its flavor is most similar to broccoli but with a slightly bitter edge that brings complexity and sophistication to the simplest of meals. Braise with lemon juice, garlic, and red pepper; add to stir-fries; simmer in white bean soup; blanche and dress with a ginger-sesame dressing right away, or freeze for a longer shelf-life.
